Different Generations of Travelers

How to Plan a Trip to Yellowstone for Different Generations of Travelers

One of my recent clients was a grandma who wanted to take her granddaughter to Yellowstone as a graduation gift. Notably, the granddaughter chose Yellowstone over any other destination in the world! So, here we have an 18-year-old girl and a 73-year-old woman traveling together to Yellowstone. Grandma reached out to us for help planning this adventure, and we gladly assisted!

She wanted to create a memorable experience for her granddaughter, who was about to head off to college, and to spend quality time together before the busy adult life took over. One of the challenges we faced was the significant age gap between the travelers—55 years apart! The granddaughter, like most teens, was full of energy and eager to explore everything, while grandma needed more comfort and a slower pace.

So, what would I recommend for travelers facing similar challenges?

1. Discuss Expectations: First, sit down and talk about the trip and the expectations for both travelers. At our company, we send a questionnaire to help understand how the perfect trip will look for you.

2. Be Realistic: Have realistic expectations about driving all day in a hot, dry climate at an elevation of 7,000 feet above sea level. It can be challenging, especially for young kids, the elderly, and people with certain health conditions.

3. Plan for Wait Times: Be prepared for potential wait times at restaurants and tourist attractions, especially if you haven't planned ahead. Not every experience will be perfect in busy towns near Yellowstone, as businesses often focus on speed rather than quality.

4. Know Your Limits: Realize your own socializing limitations and how tired you are in general. If you’re exhausted from hard work with no vacation for the last five years, it might be wise to take it easy and not overload your schedule with activities. For my client, we created an itinerary where grandma could take a nap every afternoon while her granddaughter participated in group tours and activities.

5. Leave the Planning to Us: If you don't like to plan, or you simply don't want to spend your time doing research, don't force yourself! You can buy one of our ready-to-go itineraries or order a custom-made one from us to save your time. It will take one more responsibility off your shoulders.

Cody is actually the perfect place—there’s something for everyone! If you need help planning your visit to Yellowstone, contact us at Wyld Reset, and we'll be happy to create a tailor-made itinerary for you and your group based on your interests. Or, you can purchase one of our ready-to-go itineraries from our store.

I hope this guide helped, and that your experience will be filled with wonderful memories and bonding time. Thank you for reading, and I hope it helps you plan an unforgettable journey to the world’s oldest national park.
