Yellowstone Road Opening Dates 2025: Essential Info for Your Trip
Knowing Yellowstone’s opening dates is essential for planning your trip. I’ve seen many people arrive too early, hoping to beat the crowd, only to be disappointed when they find the roads still closed and the park inaccessible.
In this article, I’ll explain how road openings work in Yellowstone.
Winter Access in Yellowstone
First of all, most of Yellowstone’s roads are closed to regular vehicles during winter. The park can only be accessed via snowmobiles. The only road open year-round is the one connecting the North Entrance to the Northeast Entrance. While this drive offers beautiful scenery, you won’t see Yellowstone’s most famous attractions, as they are mostly located near the West and East entrances.
Projected Road Opening Dates for the 2025 Season
Here are the projected road opening dates for 2025, as provided by Yellowstone National Park Service. Keep in mind that these dates are subject to change, as road openings depend heavily on weather conditions and cannot be predicted with 100% accuracy.
North Entrance to Northeast Entrance – Open year-round
West Entrance – Open April 18 - October 31, 2025
East Entrance – Open May 2 - October 31, 2025
South Entrance – Open May 9 - October 31, 2025
Northeast Entrance – To Be Determined: Beartooth Highway (US-212) and Chief Joseph Scenic Byway (WY-296)
